This site is a place for work made at a slower pace.
The photographs and short films come from time spent travelling around Britain and Europe, from the north and west of Scotland down to southern Italy. Going back to the same places, rather than moving on quickly, has had more influence on the work than chasing new locations.
Alongside this personal work, there has been a long photography career. Over more than twenty years, projects have been published and exhibited internationally. Most of the professional work has been for overseas clients and has covered landscape, travel, figure and abstract subjects. That experience sits quietly in the background and shapes how things are approached here.
The work on this site will focus on light, weather and small signs of human activity. Paths, working land and the way older and newer layers sit together often matter more than landmarks or viewpoints. Everything is arranged as a series of chapters. Each one brings together a short film, a group of still images and a small amount of writing from a particular time and place. There is also a gallery for images that do not belong to a single chapter but still feel worth keeping.
Nothing here is meant to be exhaustive or up to date. It is simply a place to slow down, spend time with the work and see what emerges.
Matt,
